Over 70 years ago, the seeds were sown for the development and growth of Darwish company, as it represented today. In 1935, my father and his brothers established the Al Darwish family business. At the time, primary business was pearl trading. Although the brothers were also trading in food stuffs and then when oil was discovered, they were quick to spot potential in other sectors as well. That’s when they established contracting and construction companies. First in Dukhan and then expanding to Umm Said and eventually Doha. At this point the business started diversifying rapidly – from travel and trade to construction and industries.

Yousuf Ben Jassim Al Darwish is a Qatari businessman with varied businesses and operations within Qatar and across the region. He has successfully led several companies. Which are well-respected and leaders in their sectors. The core focus of his group is construction and real estate, but over the years it has extensively diversified into energy and service sectors. He has held several key positions in both public and private sectors.
He has played a role in developing the private sector in Qatar and formulating policies. This year (2008) Ernst & Young nominated him for the entrepreneur of the year, Middle East. He is a passionate collector of Art and Antiques. He also has keen interest in media, and is part of local media organizations.
